Hello and welcome, my name is Indira. I am a bilingual singer and writer born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island.

First and foremost, I am proud of who I am. Little Dominicana (aye) growing up in the littlest city on the east coast — curled up right next to the Atlantic Ocean.

It’s not easy to know yourself and be proud of who you are. I don’t think I am alone in feeling lonely, less than or unworthy. Being the first generation first born daughter to parents who didn’t have the luxury of self discovery is heavy.

The wormhole of adolescence to adulthood was fraught with pain and amargura.

Screaming

Crying

Figuring out what is real

For so many years, it felt like I was trapped under the rubble of the stories and the memories of being hurt and scared and abandoned.

But it wasn’t rubble, not at all.

It was in a cocoon

A chrysalis

Mine is the story of the Butterfly.

The story of being compelled to darkness

To endure its process of metamorphosis

So that, when I am ready

I can emerge into the light.

So tremble at your power, Butterfly

Of making rainbows out of the hurricanes of your life.

Marvel at the way you alchemize bitterness into honey.

Your angels and the effervescence of Life itself

Guiding your steps everyday
